Test Automation Engineering Director to drive our next generation of test automation and validation systems.

About the Role:

As the

Test Automation Engineering Director, you will lead a high-impact, multidisciplinary team that sits at the core of Toradex' quality and reliability strategy. Reporting into the Product & Technology leadership, you will be responsible for defining the strategic direction and technical execution across several subdomains, including:

• BSP Integration Testing: Ensuring the seamless integration of Board Support Packages (BSPs) with nightly CI/CD pipelines across diverse hardware platforms.
  
• Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) Systems: Designing and maintaining test rack infrastructures for validating real-world system behavior.
  
• Functional Test Infrastructure: Overseeing the development and lifecycle of custom production testers used in high-volume manufacturing.
  
• Test Frameworks & Tooling: Architecting reusable, scalable software frameworks to support development and release testing.
  
• Data Aggregation & Reporting: Building systems to consolidate test results into actionable insights for internal engineering teams and customer-facing reporting.
  

This is a hybrid technical-strategic leadership position that blends hands-on engineering credibility with systems thinking and cross-functional collaboration.

Your Key Responsibilities:

• Team Leadership: Inspire, mentor, and grow a global team of software engineers, hardware testers, and DevOps specialists; structure the team for agility and domain ownership.
  
• Technical Direction: Define the architecture and long-term vision for test automation infrastructure across all Toradex products and platforms.
  
• Cross-Functional Coordination: Partner closely with engineering, manufacturing, and quality leads to align testing strategies with product roadmaps and production readiness.
  
• System Integration: Own the development and integration of HIL and CI pipelines to support BSP validation, kernel-level testing, and Torizon platform updates.
  
• Infrastructure & Tools: Lead the design of extensible frameworks and interfaces to support testing as a first-class citizen throughout the development lifecycle.
  
• Data & Analytics: Develop a unified approach to test result aggregation, traceability, and visualization for use by developers, QA, and external stakeholders.
  
• Process Improvement: Champion best practices in test-driven development, automation-first approaches, and continuous validation.
  

What you bring:

Must-Have Skills & Experience:

• Proven experience leading complex test automation or validation programs, ideally in embedded, hardware-integrated environments.
  
• Deep understanding of DevOps practices, CI/CD architecture, and test frameworks for distributed systems.
  
• Strong background in embedded software integration testing.
  
• Familiarity with designing and operating Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) systems and lab infrastructure for continuous validation.
  
• Excellent communication skills; able to influence cross-functional teams and convey complex technical topics to diverse audiences.
  
• Deep understanding of infrastructure-as-code best practice.

• Exposure to production test systems and volume hardware quality control processes.
  
• Experience with The Yocto Project / OpenEmbedded.
  
• Strong programming and scripting experience (e.g. Python, Go, etc.)
  
• Background in data-driven decision-making using test analytics and observability tooling.
  
• Familiarity with agile leadership frameworks (e.g. Scrum, Kanban) and global team management.
